Samsung GT-i9220 smartphone likely to support dual band Wi-Fi

Dual Band Wi-Fi Certification

If the latest buzz on the web is to be believed, an under-wraps Samsung device with model number GT-i9220 is a smartphone with dual-band Wi-Fi. According to reports by Engadget, the device has received certification for dual-band Wi-Fi on August 29.

At the onset of the past week, a leaked Samsung device photo had the grapevine buzzing about it being the much-contemplated GT-i9220 which was expected to be the company’s next smartphone, even Galaxy S III to some. However, it was later revealed to be a 5-inch media player by Samsung, the Galaxy S.

This disclosure was about to put an end to all speculations about the supposed smartphone handset in question. However, recent reports have cleared the air and expressed strong possibilities of this being a smartphone, that too with dual-band Wi-Fi. Going by the certification, the possible future-handset should be 2.4GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi enabled. The 5GHz variation can be expected to be a rare and efficient change.

Hearsay feature highlights of this device include a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU, an 8MP main camera, and either a 4.3 or 5.3-inch super AMOLED touchscreen with 1280 x 720p resolution. The widely used Gingerbread is supposed to fuel the handset.

Although concrete details about the tech specs of the Samsung GT-i9220 are tightly lid as of now, rumor mills are hinting at a possible official introduction with this dual-band Wi-Fi device at the IFA 2011.
