Nokia Ovi Store attains 3 million downloads per day

Nokia’s market supremacy has been quite well known by the mobile industry. Even though the company has not been able to claim much of the smartphones market, it still sells a major share of handsets in most of the developing countries. Recently, Nokia had announced that its Ovi Store has touched the 3 million downloads per day milestone.

Ovi Store is on a strong trajectory fueled by new apps and games from a growing number of partners and more than 250,000 new consumers signing up for Ovi everyday,” commented Tero Ojanper, Executive Vice President, Services, Nokia. “The number of daily downloads has increased from about 2 million to 3 million since September. We anticipate our progress will continue as we have just begun shipping our new Symbian smartphones.”

The company believes that this is due to the rise in overall global demand and the freshly released Symbian OS upgrade. In addition to the augmented downloads, Nokia has gained software developer momentum with over 400,000 new developers joining Forum Nokia in the past 12 months. The Nokia Qt Software Development Toolkit (SDK) and the Qt SDK have jointly accumulated 1.5 million downloads.

For smartphones like the N8, C7 and C6-01 as well as the Nokia E7, developers have come forward with interesting apps based on the Qt framework such as Swype, NHL GameCenter Premium and WhatsApp Messenger. Moreover, the apps that topped the Ovi charts are Q Torch, Angry Birds and Need for Speed Shift HD.
