In a bid to nab a portion of the GSM user base, MTS has introduced a dual SIM handset in India and even though it hasn’t revealed this device’s moniker, the company has stapled it with an economical price. The feature phone was launched yesterday through Sistema Shyam Teleservices, which offer’s telecom services in the region under the network provider’s brand.
The MTS dual SIM phone supports CDMA as well as GSM cards. Speaking on the occasion of launch, West Bengal Chief Operating Officer, Sandeep Marwaha said that the main reason of unveiling such a device is to allow users to hang onto their 2G cards, while simultaneously permitting benefits of low-rate calling over CDMA.
The device ships with a 2.4-inch display, lying underneath which is an alphanumeric keypad so as to facilitate typing. As seen in the image attached below, its rear panel touts a 1.3MP camera which caters to users’ picture clicking and video recording needs. Some of the phone’s main attributes include an audio and video player as well as a voice recorder.
It moreover comes with an ear jack which is compatible with a headphones possessing a 3.5mm pin and features Bluetooth for wireless sharing. Present at the launch event was Tollywood film starlet Paoli Dam who personally announced the existence of the handset. As a move to promote her upcoming Bengali film named ‘Sweetheart,’ the carrier will be hosting contests, wherein it intends to distribute special passes to the movie premiere.
In light of the company’s association with the film, the phone will provide free caller tunes to all buyers for 15 days. Exclusively for those employing the carrier’s services, the network operator will present them with additional perks like ringtones and wallpapers from the movie along with other such offers.
The MTS dual SIM handset can be found in India flashing a price tag of Rs. 1,699. To attract more customers, the telecom operator has proffered Rs. 600-worth voice and SMS benefits to everyone who purchases the phone.
