Lava has put its best foot forward in the low-budget smartphone category, even as its recent offering which takes the form of the Iris 458q in India has gone up on sale at an affordable price of Rs. 8,999. Shy of a few inches as compared to the recently spotted Galaxy Grand Quattro, the device should be able to give this quad core handset by Samsung and others in the category, a run for their money.
Visibly, the Lava Iris 458q intends to establish a reputation as a smartphone equipped with a quad core processor. It can be seen housing four cores and it adopts a clock speed of 1.2GHz. The make and company of the CPU however is anyone’s guess.
In spite of being enlisted as a budget-friendly phone, the Iris 458q has managed to grab a handful of the latest Android Jelly Bean OS. This should speak in its favor when dealing with competition in the quad core device sector. Within the confines of its 133.5mm x 67mm x 11.9mm dimensions rests a 4.5-inch touch display encompassing a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels.
The front panel almost camouflages a VGA secondary camera which finds itself embedded above the display. Inclusion of 3G and Wi-Fi should complement this auxiliary webcam while facilitating video conferencing. The rear panel accommodates an 8MP HDR primary camera with fairly decent features such as an LED flash, autofocus, face detection and panorama shot.
In addition to 2GB of onboard storage capacity which can be increased up to 32GB via a microSD card, the phone comes with 512MB of system memory. The inbuilt 2,000mAh Li-ion battery should be able to render a little over 10.5 hours of talk time for those on 3G networks.
Although the Lava Iris 458q price in India is set at Rs 8,999, it is being offered at a discounted rate of Rs. 8,499 by Infibeam.
