Handygo teams up with Sony BMG, acquires digital rights for regional Indian movies

Sony BMG HandygoHandygo joined hands with Sony BMG lately to attain the digital rights for movies across 3 regional languages in India. They include 12 movies in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Mobile phone users can get familiar to movies by playing contests on IVR, downloading their favorite music, animations and wallpapers.

The rights should enable Handygo to augment its visibility in both Bollywood and Tollywood. The contract includes recent Hindi movies like ‘Rajneeti’ starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, ‘Ayeisha’ featuring Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor, ‘I hate love storys’ star casting Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor and ‘Crook’ opening Emraan Hashmi and Neha Sharma. Telugu movies offered include Puli, Raavan and Kaleja, whereas Tamil movies consist of Singam, Raavan, Aadukalam, Sindubad, and Kadhal 2 Kalyanam.

Praveen Rajpal, Chief Executive Officer, Handygo commented, “VAS companies are exhibiting a growing penchant for regional content as it accounts for 40-50% of mobile music market in India. South India is the largest regional market in mobile music monetization. Hence, Handygo is looking to acquire more content in the regional space,”

This WAP content will be provided across a number of operators counting Aircel, Idea, Reliance, Tata, Airtel, and Vodafone. To play the ‘Rajneeti’ or ‘Raavan’ contests on IVR, users can dial 5567819. To enter the ‘I hate love storys’ contest on IVR, users can dial 556782 while WAP content may be reached by texting ‘Handygo’ to 55678. Users can text ‘RAV’ or ‘RAJ’ to the same number to play the ‘Raavan’ and ‘Rajneeti’ quizzes, correspondingly.
