Android powered Huawei Ascend retails through Cricket

Cricket Android seems to be gaining loads of popularity these days. Cricket Communications has also added another Android device to its portfolio entitled the Huawei Ascend, which is claimed to be the first low-cost Android device to be offered in the U.S. smartphone market. The handset will be the third smartphone in Cricket’s lineup of mobile phones.

“We are excited about launching the Huawei Ascend,” commented Matt Stoiber, vice president and general manager of devices for Cricket Communications. “It’s the lowest cost, non-contract Android device in the market complete with all the features and functionality users want. This truly exemplifies our mission to provide our customers with meaningful wireless services while offering more choices and fewer restrictions.”

This beauty comes fully loaded with a 3.5” HVGA touchscreen along with a virtual QWERTY keyboard. Offering Wi-Fi connectivity, it operates on Android 2.1 and features an MP3 player for music aficionados to jive anywhere, anytime. Sporting a 3.2MP camera, this dark blue Ascend is fitted with a microSD slot. It provides 3G Real Web Browsing and quick access to the plethora of software housed in the Android Market.

The Huawei Ascend will hit the Cricket branded retail stores, select dealers and the official website by mid-October, this year. It carries a price tag of $149.99. The handset will bring along Cricket’s all-inclusive $55 Android plan.
